CFS academics inspire school students through insightful talks
In an effort to promote a holistic learning experience and empower young minds, UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus successfully organised two impactful school engagement projects at SMJK Shing Chung and SMK Methodist (ACS) Kampar. The engagement projects involved delivering educational talks to the students of SMJK Shing Chung and SMK Methodist (ACS) Kampar.
The talk titled “The Dangers of Vaping” took place on 25 July 2023 at SMJK Shing Chung. CFS Kampar Campus academic Ooi Siew Fong shed light on the ingredients of e-cigarettes and the hazards of vaping to over 400 students. She also stressed the importance of refraining from such a harmful habit. Kho Meng Lee, a student from Class 5V, shared, “I was taken aback after learning that an average vape pod could contain as much nicotine as 20 cigarettes. I would definitely stay away from e-cigarettes.” Siew Sin Yi, also from Class 5V, stated, “I believe that the effect of e-cigarettes is more harmful than cigarettes. I will never let my family members indulge in e-cigarettes.”
Meanwhile, over at SMK Methodist (ACS) Kampar, three enriching talks unfolded on 28 July 2023, involving over 200 students. CFS Kampar Campus academic Bhargkavi Pari conducted a talk titled “The Power of Focus,” enlightening the students with practical tips to enhance focus and teaching them the importance of concentration in achieving success. Additionally, CFS Kampar Campus academic Chan Wan Ling delivered a talk titled “8 Golden Rules of Motivation,” empowering students with useful strategies to conquer challenges and find motivation from within. Furthermore, UTAR Division of Programme Promotion (DPP) former Assistant Manager Lee Lin Yee introduced the students to UTAR Foundation programmes and financial aid, offering invaluable insights into their educational journey.
Tan Xin Yi, a Form 4 STEM class student, commented, “I like the tips to stay focused, especially the brain exercises. They are so fun and useful.” Nurul Izwani, a Form 4 Accounting class student, shared, “I love the brain exercises as well. I believe they would help me focus better in the classroom. Moreover, I also learned how to use my breath to improve my concentration.” Mahalashimi Subramanian, a student from Form 5 Arts class, exclaimed, “I really enjoyed today’s session and paid my full attention. The concept of self-love inspired me greatly. It is truly helpful and informative.”
