CFS encourages school students to excel in STEM

SMJK San Min students accomplished a remarkable achievement by securing the second prize at the Hilir Perak district level of the recent Karnival STEM Tahun 2023 - Young STEMist Conference. This outstanding accomplishment is a testament to the students’ dedication and the collaborative efforts of their school teacher, Ms Lian Har Nee and UTAR CFS Kampar academic Puan Nor Habibi Saadah binti Musa. The competition aimed to spark students’ interest in STEM and enhance their competitive spirit. It also aimed to provide a platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and problem-solving skills.

The second prize was clinched by Form 5 students Lim Yong Xuan, Dylan Ooi Hao Je, and Teh Ee Shen from STEM 1. Their project titled “Solar panel problems and improvement research,” aimed to explore solar panel issues and study methods to enhance its quality. The students expressed their gratitude towards Ms Lian and Puan Nor Habibi for their invaluable guidance. Besides gaining knowledge in crafting formal research papers, the team was also able to hone their presentation skills and work efficiently as a team. Additionally, the competition enriched their understanding of renewable energy sources such as the solar panel.

Puan Nor Habibi, who assisted in coaching the students, played a pivotal role in their journey. Having a research background in solar energy, she guided them to compose the research paper in an appropriate format and provided consistent feedback on their proposals and presentations for continuous improvement. She commended the students’ efforts and encouraged them to pursue their passion for physics and learning.

Ms Lian’s contribution in nurturing the students’ potential and supporting their efforts was also instrumental. Lian shared, “I have witnessed their growth from Form 4 to Form 5. I saw them working as a strong team like they are one. They tolerated each other and accepted different opinions. These important values helped them grow.” Lian also expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations with CFS Kampar academics. She extended her gratitude to Puan Nor Habibi for her professional guidance and looked forward to further collaborations in the future.
