English Language Camp at SMK Raja Perempuan, Ipoh

In a bid to empower young minds and foster language proficiency, the Centre for Extension Education (CEE) at UTAR organised a remarkable English Language Camp at SMK Raja Perempuan Ipoh on 15 September 2023. This endeavour, marked by enthusiasm and zeal, aimed to equip 90 Form 6 students from the school with the skills needed to communicate effectively in English while nurturing creativity, social skills, and positive values.

The camp’s primary objective was to empower participants with effective English language communication. It was designed to provide students with the tools they need to converse confidently and proficiently in English, thereby laying a robust foundation for future success in the language. Beyond the realm of linguistic prowess, the camp also sought to cultivate creative thinking in English, encouraging students to express themselves in innovative and imaginative ways that transcend linguistic barriers. Furthermore, it aimed to instil essential social skills and positive values, emphasising teamwork, empathy, and collaboration.

At the heart of the educational programme was a captivating main lesson, skilfully delivered by CEE’s English instructor, Mr Beh Heng Jian. This lesson centred on Subject-Verb Agreement Rules, an essential structural element in academic communication that directly impacts an individual’s ability to engage in appropriate and effective conversations.

With keen eyes and firm determination, they ventured forth, meticulously seeking clues and unravelling the mystery one step at a time

However, the English Language Camp offered more than just classroom learning. It transformed language acquisition into an exhilarating adventure. Students took on the roles of detectives, embarking on a mission to solve a thrilling murder mystery through a series of English puzzles. They moved to designated locations, working collaboratively to gather clues and hints, fostering critical thinking and teamwork.

Amidst the intellectual challenges and thrilling adventures, success was celebrated with prizes awarded to the most astute detectives. Beyond academic achievement, the English Language Camp forged meaningful connections and strengthened relationships. A heartwarming souvenir exchange between UTAR and SMK Raja Perempuan, Ipoh underscored the spirit of friendship and collaboration. The event culminated in a memorable experience where instructors, students, and school staff revelled in the joy of learning and connection.
