UTAR
received visitors from Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Imam Bonjol Padang,
Indonesia on 6 September 2023 at Sungai Long Campus. Among the visitors were
International Partnership Officer Dr Nofel Nofiadri, Faculty of Islamic
Economics and Business lecturer Ms Muthia Ulfah, MA, and Islamic Accounting
Department Chairman and lecturer Mr M. Zaky Mubarak Lubis, ME.
Welcoming
the visitors were Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) Deputy Dean
for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Dr Ng Kar Yee, FAM
Department of Economics Head Dr Tiong Kui Ming, FAM Department of Finance
Head Dr Lim Boon Keong, Division of Community and International Networking
(DCInterNet) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, and DCInterNet Manager Ms
Furnny Ong.
The visit
saw a discussion held between the two parties. The discussion started with
the presentation of corporate videos by UTAR and UIN. The discussion
included matters such as research collaboration possibilities, student
mobility programmes, webinars, cyber classrooms, and internship
opportunities.
Speaking of
webinars and cyber classrooms, Dr Ng suggested that both parties should find
similar topics in the syllabus for speakers from both universities to
conduct classes for the students. During the discussion, Dr Lai also took
the opportunity to brief about UTAR’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) to
the visitors. They showed great interest and expressed their intention to
introduce it to their students.
The
discussion ended with a souvenir exchange and a group photograph session.
