A welcome ceremony was held online for China students 
	under the Hubei Polytechnic University (HBPU) - Universiti Tunku Abdul 
	Rahman (UTAR) International Collaborative Study Project on 8 September 2023. 
	Besides giving the international students a warm welcome, the ceremony was 
	also held to introduce them to the programmes offered by UTAR.
HBPU representatives who were present at the ceremony 
	were Vice President of HBPU Liu Xiuhai, Hubei Institute of Technology School 
	of Continuing Education Secretary of the General Party Branch Ms Li Li, 
	Hubei Institute of Technology staff and 45 HBPU students. 
Representing UTAR at the ceremony were UTAR President 
	Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for Internationalisation and 
	Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Faculty of Information and 
	Communication Technology (FICT) Dean Prof Ts Dr Liew Soung Yue, Institute of 
	Chinese Studies (ICS) Dean Assoc Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei, Faculty of Business 
	and Finance (FBF) Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial 
	Training Dr Kuah Yoke Chin, Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) Deputy Dean 
	for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Thinavan 
	Periyayya, M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MK FMHS) 
	Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Dr

Prof Dato’ Ewe delivering his speech
Prof Dato’ Ewe said in his speech, “I am delighted to 
	attend this welcome ceremony, held for the students of the Hubei University 
	of Technology and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman International Joint Talent 
	Development Programme, which is taking place at the Hubei University of 
	Technology today. On behalf of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, I would like 
	to extend a warm welcome to all the students participating in this 
	international joint talent development programme. I also want to offer my 
	best wishes for the exciting university journey that lies ahead for each of 
	you, whether you are studying at Hubei University of Technology or will be 
	joining us at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in Malaysia. May your university 
	years be fulfilling and truly remarkable. The (2+2) international joint 
	talent training project jointly launched by UTAR and Hubei Institute of 
	Technology is a key cooperation project after our two universities signed a 
	memorandum of understanding in July. I am grateful to see that the two 
	universities have begun to implement specific cooperation matters in a short 
	period of time. Therefore, we would like to thank the relevant personnel of 
	the two schools for their active coordination and cooperation to enable the 
	project to be successfully launched and operated.”
HBPU Vice President Liu said, “Academician 
	workstations, national-level patent navigation service bases, 
	provincial-level graduate workstations, outstanding young and middle-aged 
	scientific and technological innovation teams, postdoctoral innovation 
	practice bases, key laboratories, and university humanities and social 
	sciences key research bases will form a community of excellence in talent 
	cultivation. In the next two years, you will grow here, bringing new hope to 
	the university. The university will always be the stage for your dreams, 
	accompanying you on your journey.”
	
HBPU staff and students at their 
	campus
Ms Li Li said, “Hubei University of Technology places 
	great importance on international education. In recent years, we have 
	established academic exchanges and partnerships with more than 20 
	universities and research institutions from different countries and regions. 
	These collaborations encompass student exchanges, faculty visits, and 
	research cooperation. Hubei University of Technology attaches great 
	importance to its partnership with UTAR. We have formed dedicated teams to 
	facilitate project approval and implementation. Various departments, such as 
	the Academic Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, and Admissions Office, 
	have spared no effort in providing the best resources for the programme. It 
	is through the collective efforts of all involved parties that we were able 
	to start enrolling students in July this year, and we are thrilled to 
	welcome all the new students present here today.”
	
UTAR representatives from various faculties were also 
	present at the event to share details about their respective faculties with 
	HBPU students. Dr Liew introduced FICT and talked about the programmes 
	offered by the faculty, including its curriculum development, industry 
	recruitment initiatives, as well as postgraduate programmes. Meanwhile, Dr 
	Chong outlined the structure of the ICS programme by providing details about 
	its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and discussed the career 
	development paths available to students after graduation.
On another note, Dr Kuah provided an overview of the 
	FBF programmes, including insights into its structural organisation, 
	available courses, professional accreditations, and collaborations with 
	other universities. Additionally, Mr Thinavan presented information about 
	the FCI, discussing its structure, programme offerings, and noteworthy 
	achievements. Finally, Dr Leong explained the academic programmes offered by 
	MK FMHS, and shared the educational objectives, and organisational structure 
	of the MK FMHS.
