UTAR staff and student volunteers
with SJKC Keh Seng teachers, students and their parents
The “We Care, We Act” community service initiative,
led by UTAR staff and students, kicked off with the organisation of the
Little Leaders Camp and STEM Camp at SJK(C) Keh Seng in Malacca on 23 March
2024.
Principal of SJK(C) Keh Seng Ms Yat Siat Tiew noted
the enthusiastic participation of 162 students, with 94 participating in the
Little Leaders Camp and 68 participating in the STEM Camp. She expressed
gratitude to the UTAR team for facilitating valuable learning experiences in
leadership and STEM for the students. She also emphasised the importance of
teamwork and effective communication, likening it to clearing a blocked
drain, and highlighted the significance of STEM in societal progress, hoping
it would spark interest among students for future contributions.
At the event, speeches were delivered by Mr Danni
Piong Yon Wee, the chairman of the Parents-Teachers Association, and Mr
Zhang Yu Bo, the chairman of the Alumni Association, both expressing
heartfelt thanks for the event’s success and wishing the students continued
growth and enriching experiences.
The day’s activities, organised by a team of 28 UTAR
students, included 12 game stations designed around STEM principles and
leadership qualities, providing primary school students with hands-on
experiences in STEM and teamwork, blending education with fun.
SJK(C) Keh Seng, along with the Alumni Association
and the Parents-Teachers Association, awarded nine prizes recognising
outstanding students selected by the UTAR team for achievements in various
categories such as best group, best male camper, and best female camper in
each grade.
