UTAR, Alliance Bank and MY Clean Beach unite for environment action

Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad (Alliance Bank) and MY Clean Beach (NGO) in collaboration with UTAR organised a Beach Clean Up Campaign on 23 March 2024 at Pantai Batu Laut, Tanjong Sepat, Selangor.

The event aimed to inspire the university community and the wider community to recognise the importance of beach cleaning in preserving the ecosystem and promoting sustainability. Volunteers engaged in hands-on activity to demonstrate the impact of individual efforts on environmental conservation and foster a sense of responsibility and ownership towards maintaining the cleanliness of beaches and marine ecosystems.

The Beach Clean Up Campaign commenced at 8:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony where representatives from UTAR, Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad, and MY Clean Beach delivered speeches, highlighting the importance of the initiative.

Equipped with gloves, trash bags, and other cleaning materials, participants embarked on the task of cleaning up the beach. The coastline was divided into designated areas to ensure thorough cleaning. Volunteers meticulously collected various forms of litter, including plastic waste, glass bottles, and debris, while adhering to safety guidelines and protocols.

Educational sessions were conducted to explain the consequences of improper waste disposal and the importance of adopting sustainable practices by MY Clean Beach (NGO) members. They also inspired individuals to adopt eco-friendly habits and take proactive measures to reduce plastic usage and waste generation.

During the campaign, volunteers made a significant impact by removing 736.3kg of waste from Pantai Batu Laut, thus contributing significantly to the preservation of local marine ecosystems. They also learnt the detrimental effects of pollution on beaches and oceans, and praised the collaboration between UTAR, Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad and MY Clean Beach in promoting environmental conservation initiatives.

The Beach Clean Up Campaign, organised by Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad and MY Clean Beach in collaboration with UTAR, proved to be a resounding success. Through collective efforts, the event not only cleaned up the beach but also instilled a sense of environmental responsibility and stewardship among participants. Moving forward, it is imperative to sustain the momentum generated by this initiative and continue advocating for the preservation of our invaluable natural resources.
