In March 2024, the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) at UTAR Kampar Campus
embarked on a mission to enlighten secondary school students in Perak about
their future academic and career paths. These sessions were meticulously
designed to guide the youth of Perak in making informed decisions regarding
their tertiary education and potential careers. A total of five schools were
chosen for this endeavour.
On 11 March
2024, Mr Lee Chee Heong, an academic from CFS, interacted with Form 4
students at SMJK Pei Yuan in Kampar, conducting an insightful talk regarding
the diverse range of programmes available at UTAR. Furthermore, his talk
underlined the pivotal role of higher education in realising students’
aspirations. The enthusiastic response from students highlighted the event’s
impact, fuelling aspirations and broadening horizons.

Building on
this momentum, UTAR proceeded to SMJK Nan Hwa in Sitiawan on 13 March 2024,
where Form 4 students were segregated into Arts and Science groups to
receive specialised career guidance. CFS Kampar’s academic staff Ms Kow Li
Fen and Mr Goh Kai Wey, shared insights into various career paths tailored
to each group. A standout feature of these sessions was the administration
of the RIASEC (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and
Conventional) test. This tool played a crucial role in uncovering the
students’ inherent interests and aptitudes, significantly supporting their
educational journey.

career pathways. CFS Kampar Head of Department of Arts and Social Science Ms
Pakialetchumy Antoni, facilitated the RIASEC test for both lower (Form 1 and
Form 2) and upper form (Form 3 to Form 5) students, fostering a proactive
environment for career exploration.
Through these
engagements, UTAR not only disseminated valuable knowledge but also
instilled in students a sense of clarity and confidence to pursue their
passions.
