Another meaningful UTARambassador Leadership Programme (UALP) Appreciation and Appointment Ceremony for UTARambassadors was held on 3 April 2024 at UTAR Kampar Campus and 4 April 2024 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The ceremony, organised by the Division of Programme Promotion (DPP), saw the attendance of UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat at both campuses. Additionally, DPP Acting Director Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock and DPP Deputy Director Mr Tan Choon Wah were present at UTAR Sungai Long Campus and Kampar Campus, respectively.
Since 2013, UALP has continuously provided UTAR students a platform to support their passion in leadership, through interactions with people from all walks of life, and the sharing of university experience with external audiences, namely prospective students, parents, teachers and visitors. Apart from leadership skills, participation in UALP also enabled the UTARambassador to further hone their teamwork, event management and communication skills.
The annual ceremony was organised to welcome the new batch of UTARambassadors and celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of the previous batch of UTARambassadors. This year, 17 UTARambassadors were appointed for the Kampar Campus, while the Sungai Long Campus welcomed nine newcomers. The ceremony also saw the former UTARambassadors extending their support and encouragement to the newly-appointed juniors.Prof Dato’ Ewe said in his speech, “This ceremony holds significant importance as we honour our outgoing ambassadors for their exemplary service and leadership within the UTAR community. Your dedication to upholding leadership, responsibility, discipline and teamwork has set a commendable example for your peers and has contributed to the positive development of our university.”
He continued, “To our outgoing UTARambassadors, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering commitment, time and diligence throughout your tenure. Your contributions have been invaluable and we are grateful for your dedication to this programme. As you transition to new endeavours, I encourage you to carry forward the lessons and experiences gained during your time as ambassadors, and continue to strive for excellence in all your pursuits.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our newly appointed UTARambassadors. Your appointment signifies your potential as leaders within our community, and I do not doubt that you will rise to the occasion with enthusiasm and dedication. I encourage you to seek guidance from your seniors, learn from their experiences, and embrace your role with passion and integrity,” he added.
The top three performing 2023 UTARambassadors shared their experiences and offered advice to the newcomers. Khor Chun Sian, who majors in Commerce Accounting, said, “This award is not just a reflection of my achievements, but also a testament to the collaborative spirit of our team. I am grateful for the unwavering support and dedication of my fellow ambassador friends. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones and made a positive impact on our campus community. Throughout our journey as campus ambassadors, we have learnt invaluable lessons and made unforgettable memories. I look forward to the opportunities ahead and to continuing this journey of growth, learning and service.”
Chew Chun Xian said, “Reflecting on my experience as a UTARambassador over the past year, I am reminded of the countless moments of joy, growth, and yes, the occasional mishaps that have shaped our journey. From mastering the art of navigating campus tours to the unforgettable late-night brainstorming sessions during the UTARambassador Leadership Camp 2023. Each experience has left an indelible mark on my heart. I remember the days when we were doing the ULC camp. It was definitely a golden time for me. Just imagine having a team which is always energetic and supportive! I’m really glad to have them in the team! We learned from each other throughout the camp.”
On the other hand, Hazel Lim Benin expressed, “Participating in this programme has taught me invaluable lessons about teamwork and resilience in the face of challenges. I am particularly grateful to my coordinator and team members, whose dedication and support have been instrumental in guiding us through our responsibilities and ensuring that we meet our objectives. Despite the inevitable ups and downs, I am proud of the camaraderie and friendship we have built as we worked together during various events such as open days and campus tours, serving prospective students and parents. Although my term as a UTAR ambassador in 2023 has come to an end, I am grateful to continue my journey as an ambassador this year. I am eager to support and mentor the upcoming batch of UTARambassadors. To them, I say ‘Embrace this opportunity to shine, but don’t forget to enjoy the journey along the way’.”
At Sungai Long, the ceremony saw the outgoing UTARambassadors, namely Caren Hee Jia Hui, Ho Jun Wei, Tan Zung Yan, Tan Xiao Xin, Lee Yi Xhuen, and Wang YiHang sharing their personal and professional growths.
