Perak Chinese Mining Association donates to UTAR Hospital

UTAR Hospital received donation from the Perak Chinese Mining Association (PCMA) during the Mock Cheque Presentation Ceremony, held on 27 April 2024 at UTAR Hospital, Kampar, Perak.

The momentous occasion was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The presentation of mock cheque was made by PCMA Former President and Honorary Secretary YBhg Dato’ Chin Lean Choong and PCMA Deputy President Mr Lim Chin Khai to UTAR Hospital Board Chairman YBhg Ir Academician Emeritus Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Chuah Hean Teik.

The ceremony was witnessed by UTAR President YBhg Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat; UTAR Council Member Mr Hew Fen Yee; Deputy CEOs of UTAR Hospital Dr Ang Kong Hui and Ms Maria Khong Poh Fong; Director of UTAR Hospital’s T&CM Centre Dr Te Kian Keong; esteemed guests from PCMA, as well as UTAR and UTAR Hospital staff.

Tan Sri Chuah thanking PCMA for their generous donation

Tan Sri Chuah expressed his gratitude on behalf of UTAR Education Foundation (UEF) and UTAR Hospital for the support from PCMA. He said, “UTAR Hospital is indeed very honoured to receive this pledge of RM5million donation to UTAR Hospital. In 2021, the Perak Chinese Mining Association donated RM1million, and in 2022, RM2million was donated to UTAR Hospital as part of the pledge.”

He said that the donation will greatly contribute to the growth and development of UTAR Hospital, support the Hospital’s effort to elevate the quality of medical services and contribute to the improved well-being and healthcare of the local and surrounding community. Collectively, these efforts also include providing empowering training for medical and health science students and facilitating the provision of affordable medical services of Western Medicine, and Traditional and Complementary Medicine.

He also commended PCMA’s constant commitment to the betterment of society and the advancement of healthcare services. Beyond the healthcare sector, PCMA has continuously contributed to the education sector through collaboration with UTAR’s Institute of Chinese Studies. The collaboration envelops joint research projects on the tin mining industry, annual tin mining festivals, seminars, and workshops.

He further elaborated on the instrumental role played by the late Tan Sri Dato’ Hew See Tong, as both the PCMA Advisor and UTAR Planning and Development Committee Advisor, whose legacy of philanthropy and service continues to inspire many. This includes the late Tan Sri Dato’ Hew See Tong’s support in facilitating the annual Tin Mining Festival since 2015, raising awareness of tin mining’s importance.

The donation ceremony ensued with a souvenir exchange ceremony, group photograph and a tour of UTAR T&CM Centre.
