A group of visitors from the University of Science
and Technology Beijing (USTB) paid a visit to UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 30
July 2024. The visit stimulated an engaging discussion as both parties
delved into potential collaboration opportunities.
The USTB delegation included USTB Vice Chancellor
Prof Yu Chengwen, Institute for Advanced Materials and Technology Assoc Prof
Dr Zhang Bowei, International Students Center Director Mr Li Baoming,
Department of Student Affairs Director Ms Zhao Meng, School of Civil and
Resource Engineering General Secretary Ms Geng Qiannan and
International Students Center academic Dr Liu Mengzhe. They were accompanied
by Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd Company Director and Chief Operations Officer Mr
Tee Choon Hock.
Extending a warm welcome to the USTB visitors were
UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of
Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, LKC FES Head
of Department of Mechanical and Material Engineering Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yeo
Wei Hong, LKC FES Head of Department of Civil Engineering Ir Ts Dr Yip Chun
Chieh, Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon
Onn and OIA Senior Assistant Manager Ms Liu Dan.
During the meeting, Prof Dato’ Ewe and Prof Yu
exchanged a brief overview of their respective organisations. Various topics
were thoroughly discussed and explored, including study tours, the 2+2
education model, internship opportunities with Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd,
engineer talent development and joint research projects. Both parties
expressed a strong interest in fostering future collaborations.
The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and
a group photography session.
