SCUT visits UTAR seeking research collaboration

A delegation from the South China University of Technology (SCUT), led by Prof Dr Chen Haoyong, visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 31 July 2024 to explore potential collaborations in renewable energy and smart grid technologies. Prof Chen, the leader of the New Energy Power System Research Group and Director of the Institute of Power Economics and Electricity Markets at SCUT, was accompanied by SCUT academics Prof Dr Zeng Jun, Prof Dr Yin Huajie, Prof Dr He Kejing, Dr Mo Lili, Dr Hua Dong, Ms Bai Fengling, and China Water Resources Pearl River Planning, Surveying and Designing Co Ltd Ms Wang Lian.

The delegates were warmly received by Office of International Affairs Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Head and Centre for Electronics Systems Design Chairperson Assoc Prof Ir Dr Chang Yoong Choon, Centre for Power Systems and Electricity Chairperson Ir Prof Dr Lim Yun Seng, Department of Laboratory Management and Safety Administration Head Assoc Prof Ir Dr Wong Jianhui and LKC FES academics Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Boon Han, Assoc Prof Ts Dr Chew Kuew Wai, and Dr Hoon Yap.

The discussion among the delegates focused on identifying potential joint research collaboration in the areas of new renewable energy technologies, the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid, and the optimisation of smart grid systems. The delegation also had the opportunity to tour UTAR’s research facilities and laboratories.

The visit concluded with both universities expressing their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the field of renewable energy and smart grid technologies. Both parties agreed to explore further opportunities for joint research projects, academic exchanges, and student internships. The visit was a testament to UTAR’s commitment to international collaboration and its dedication to promoting sustainable development through research and innovation.
