UTAR renews MoU with Guangxi Medical University

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) renewal ceremony was held between UTAR and the Guangxi Medical University, China (GXMU) on 8 August 2024 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and GXMU President Prof Dr Zeng Zhiyu.

Both universities began their cooperative relationship as early as 2014, formalising it with the first MoU in 2016. The renewal of this MoU marked a new chapter in their partnership. The MoU outlined initiatives for collaboration, including joint international research projects, talent training programmes, and academic exchanges through faculty visits for research and teaching. The MoU also aimed to support student mobility programmes, internships, and joint supervision of master’s and doctoral programmes.

Present at the event were GXMU The First Affiliated Hospital Secretary of Party Committee Prof Dr Li Lang, Hospital of Stomatology Vice Dean Prof Dr Tao Renchuan, Foreign Languages School Vice Dean Assoc Prof Ms He Yuanyuan, The Second Affiliated Hospital Vice Dean Prof Dr Sun Xuyong and The First Affiliated Hospital Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery Director Prof Dr Peng Tao.

Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed, “This MoU marks a new chapter in medical education, scientific research cooperation and talent training between the two universities. Recently, students from GXMU came here for exchanges. Their arrival has added vitality and creativity to our campus, and we have deeply felt the elegance and talent of GXMU students. We also look forward to our students gaining valuable learning and exchange experience in your university in October.”

“We are deeply honoured to have such a close relationship with GXMU, and look forward to more such exchange and cooperation opportunities in the future,” he added.

Prof Zeng first introduced the development of GXMU in detail and sincerely invited UTAR to participate in the 90th anniversary celebration of GXMU, which will be held on 21 November 2024. At the same time, he said, “I hope that with the joint efforts of both parties, we can further deepen our cooperation in academic collaboration, joint research and various exchanges. I wish the future of the two universities will be more brilliant and beautiful.”
