On 8 August 2024, The Malaysian Institute of
Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) delivered a career talk to
UTAR Bachelor of International Business students at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.
The talk aimed to highlight career opportunities for company secretaries and
governance professionals, emphasising the importance of the Chartered
Governance Qualifying Programme (CGQP) in the professional field.
The MAICSA team was represented by Pn Rohani Aziz, Pn
Intan Nabila, and Pn Sharifah Raihan Al Idrus. They offered a comprehensive
overview of the CGQP, which serves as a fast-track option for those with
Institute-recognised bachelor’s and master’s degrees to complete the
Chartered Governance Institute’s (CGI) qualifying programme and become CGI
members. The presentation covered the programme’s structure, career
prospects, and fees, outlining various entry levels—Level 1 or 2—tailored to
three categories of applicants: Related Degree holders, Non-Related Degree
holders, and those on the Fast Track Professional route.
Attended by over 70 final-year students from the
Bachelor of International Business (Honours) and Bachelor of Economics
(Global Economics) (Honours) programmes, the talk sparked great interest and
engagement among participants. The participants were enthusiastic about
exploring careers as chartered company secretaries and governance
professionals, recognising the crucial role these professionals play in the
corporate world.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A session
where participants interacted with the representatives from MAICSA,
exploring details of the CGQP and discussing the benefits of pursuing a
career in governance. The event not only provided students with valuable
insights into the governance profession but also equipped them with the
knowledge and motivation to pursue excellence in their future careers.
