UTAR recently hosted 18 students and a faculty member
from Quzhou University (QZU), China, for a
comprehensive two-week inbound study mobility programme. Themed ‘Discover Malaysia: Unveiling Cultural Heritage, Economic Growth, and
Talent Potential’, the programme took place from 21 July to 3 August
2024, providing participants with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves
in Malaysian culture, explore educational advancements, and engage in
meaningful cross-cultural interactions.

The opening ceremony, held on 22 July at the UTAR
Sungai Long Campus, marked the official commencement of the programme.
Students were welcomed with a campus tour and an introduction to UTAR,
setting the tone for an enriching exchange experience. Throughout the two
weeks, participants engaged in various activities designed to deepen their
understanding of Malaysia’s cultural heritage, economic landscape, and
educational system.

Key highlights of the programme included cultural
sharing sessions on topics such as the Malaysian education system,
Malaysia-China economic and cultural exchange, and workshops on traditional
Malay dance. Additionally, the students had the opportunity to visit
significant cultural sites, including the Malaysian Chinese Museum and Batu
Caves, allowing them to witness Malaysia’s rich and diverse cultural
tapestry first-hand.

The programme also featured academic workshops that
focused on enhancing students’ soft skills, including digital literacy,
leadership, team collaboration, critical thinking, and emotional
intelligence. These sessions were designed to equip the participants with
the necessary tools to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Quzhou University students further enriched their
experience by sharing their own cultural perspectives during the interactive
sessions. These exchanges fostered mutual understanding and respect between
the students of QZU and their Malaysian counterparts.
The closing ceremony, held on 2 August 2024, saw
reflections and presentations from the QZU students, where each shared their
learning outcomes and personal experiences. Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn,
Director of the Office of International Affairs at UTAR, delivered the
closing remarks, emphasising the importance of such international exchanges
in building global citizens. Zheng Qiang, Director of the Student Affairs
Office at QZU’s School of Business, also addressed the attendees, expressing
gratitude for the warm reception and the invaluable experiences gained
during the programme.
The event concluded with a cultural performance by
the QZU students, showcasing the traditional Malay dance they had learned,
followed by a group photo session, symbolising the lasting bonds formed
during their time in Malaysia.
