UTAR STEM Outreach partnered with the Department of
Chemical Engineering at UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and
Science (LKC FES) to organise a workshop titled “Pathways to Success:
Advancing AI, Chemical Engineering, and Sustainable Industries Post-SPM” for
113 students from SMK TTDI Jaya on 7 August 2024.
The workshop was designed to give students a clear
understanding of their options after SPM, with a strong emphasis on the
importance of STEM education and the growing role of AI technologies. It
also aimed to introduce students to UTAR and its Chemical Engineering
programme, encouraging them to explore this exciting field.
The session was led by LKC FES Department of Chemical
Engineering academic Ir Dr Chong Kok Chung, who patiently explained the
various post-SPM pathways available to the participants.

students after SPM
Following this, Dr Chong shared insights into STEM
education, emphasising its broad scope, which includes fields such as
chemical engineering. He also highlighted the Chemical Engineering programme
at UTAR, encouraging students with an interest in this field to consider
joining UTAR. Additionally, Dr Chong discussed the advancements in
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, helping students prepare for the
challenges and opportunities that the future holds.

The workshop was a success as it aligned with the
United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)— Quality Education (SDG
4) and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9). By enhancing
students’ knowledge in STEM education, the workshop not only prepared them
for future career opportunities but also contributed to their understanding
of chemical engineering and AI, fostering innovation and supporting the
development of sustainable industries.
