UTAR strengthens ties and explores collaboration with institutions in China

UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, who was accompanied by Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, visited several universities and organisations in China, including stops in Beijing, Guizhou, Hunan, and Fuzhou from 19 to 24 August 2024. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties and explore further collaboration opportunities between UTAR and its counterparts in China.

On 19 August 2024, a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UTAR and Beijing Film Academy. The MoU, signed by Prof Ewe and Beijing Film Academy Vice President Mr Tong Lei, aimed to enhance collaboration in film and media studies. It also aimed to facilitate joint programmes, study tours, and student exchanges between both institutions.

The next day, on 20 August 2024, Prof Dato’ Ewe and his team visited SinoCarbon Innovation & Investment Co. Ltd. to discuss potential collaboration in research, forums, and training on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.

On 21 August 2024, Prof Dato' Ewe, accompanied by Dr Pok Wei Fong, Dean of the Faculty of Accountancy and Management, took part in the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) in Guiyang, Guizhou. The event served as a valuable opportunity to strengthen academic and cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN economies, with an emphasis on future educational collaborations. During the event, UTAR also signed MoU with Guangxi Financial Vocational College.

On the following day, Prof Dato' Ewe visited Guiyang University, where he was warmly received by Chancellor Mr Lyu Baoping. Discussions focused on potential collaboration in areas such as student study tours, industrial training programmes, and joint research projects between the two institutions. On the same day, Prof Dato' Ewe also visited the Guizhou Association of International Educational Exchange to explore possibilities for academic and cultural exchange partnerships.

On 23 August 2024, Prof Dato' Ewe continued his trip to the Hunan Broadcasting System in Changsha, Hunan. During the visit, an MoU was signed between UTAR and the Golden Eagle Documentary Channel of Hunan Broadcasting System. The MoU, signed by Prof Dato' Ewe and Mr Zhang Hongwei, Party Branch Secretary and Channel Director, aimed to promote collaboration in media, content production, and internship opportunities for UTAR students.

On the same day, another milestone was achieved with the signing of an MoU between UTAR and the China TV Artists Association. This MoU focused on providing UTAR students with internship and study tour opportunities in the Chinese media industry, further enhancing UTAR’s media and communication programmes.

The visit concluded on 24 August 2024 with a trip to Fuzhou University, where Prof Dato' Ewe met with the Fuzhou University President Academician Prof Dr Wu Minghong and discussed about joint R&D research, students and staff exchange.
