It was yet another meaningful day for UTAR and Guangxi University, China (GXU), as both universities deepened their decade-long partnership on 22 November 2024 in the heart of Guangxi province of China, broadening academic collaboration in the future.
UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong visited GXU on 22 November 2024. He was given a warm welcome by GXU Vice President Prof Xiao Jianzhuang and academics.
The visit aimed to widen collaborative opportunities between the two universities, further opening up potential programmes for students and academics. The agenda of the discussion included student and academic exchange programmes, joint supervision for postgraduate programmes, sharing of academic resources, joint talent training programmes for students in economy, agriculture, and civil engineering; and the potential establishment of a new model for international collaboration between the two universities.
During the discussion, Prof Choong and Prof Xiao also provided an in-depth update on UTAR and GXU’s statuses of international development.
The visit and exchange not only highlighted the close partnership between the universities, but also the shared commitment to fostering academic excellence, broadening international outreach, and strengthening research partnerships in the rapidly evolving world.
The partnership between UTAR and GXU began on 5 April 2011, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), marking the start of a decade-long collaboration. It facilitated various joint collaborations such as joint teaching and research programmes, short-term student exchange programmes, study tours, and talks. A memorandum of agreement (MoA) was officially inked on 8 November 2017, kickstarting a series of long-term student exchange programmes. Meanwhile, both universities also engaged in various academic activities occasionally.
Looking ahead, UTAR aspires to continue making significant contributions to the academic world alongside its partners, including GXU.
