Xingtao Technology, a prominent player in China’s
metaverse industry, partnered with UTAR to host a transformative online
seminar titled “Crossing Borders, Building Dreams” on 25 November 2024. The
event aimed to inspire UTAR students by showcasing career opportunities in
the metaverse industry and providing insights into internships at leading
Chinese technology companies.
The seminar featured Xingtao Technology senior 3D
modelling expert Mr Chen Jianyu as the keynote speaker. Mr Chen offered an
in-depth presentation on the latest trends in China’s gaming industry,
focusing on cutting-edge innovations in metaverse development. Aside from
that, Mr Chen elaborated on key elements of game development, such as
programming, 3D modelling, and virtual environment design, providing
students with valuable insights into the transformation of creativity into
immersive digital experiences. Faculty of Creative Industries Deputy Dean
for Student Development and Industrial Training Ts Dr Ang Kok Yew expressed
strong support for the initiative.
The focus then shifted to the experiences shared by
two UTAR interns who had worked with Xingtao Technology. FCI Game Design
student Acmen Loo Wen Ting shared his involvement in two projects at Xingtao
Technology: the Metaverse Taxation Hall and the Jintai Road AI Street.
Through these projects, he gained practical experience in applying advanced
technologies to real-world challenges. He emphasised the importance of
teamwork and cross-department communication in accomplishing complex project
goals.
Acmen also praised Xingtao Technology’s open and
collaborative corporate culture, which encouraged the free exchange of ideas
and fostered creativity. His internship provided not only professional
growth but also personal enrichment through cultural immersion, including
experiencing China’s winter festivals. A standout moment for Acmen was
presenting his projects to UTAR’s President, marking a significant highlight
in his journey.
Ong Yong Kang, another Game Design student from FCI,
reflected on his hands-on experience in 3D modelling at Xingtao Technology.
He learned industry-leading techniques and tools, contributing to the
creation of virtual characters and environments. Ong highlighted how the
internship deepened his understanding of balancing technical precision with
creativity in 3D design.
The seminar underscored the value of cross-cultural
collaboration in today’s interconnected world. Students were encouraged to
develop adaptability and cultural awareness, skills that are crucial in
dynamic fields like the metaverse. Xingtao Technology also provided
practical guidance on career planning, explaining recruitment processes,
popular roles in the gaming industry, and strategies to excel in the
competitive job market.
The partnership between UTAR and Xingtao Technology
exemplifies how academia and industry can collaborate to nurture young
talent and foster international exchange. By offering internships and career
guidance, Xingtao Technology is shaping the next generation of global
professionals while reinforcing its commitment to innovation and
cross-border cooperation.
