Workshop on enhancing workplace diversity prepares students for global careers

Students from the Cross Cultural Management course attended the workshop titled “Bridging Cultures: Enhancing Workplace Diversity” on 4 December 2024 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.  The workshop, organised by the Department of International Business under the Faculty of Accountancy and Management, aimed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate cultural differences and promote inclusivity in their future careers.

The workshop featured Job Expert Country Director Mr Nicholas Hooi and Business Development Lead Ms Chia K Rou as the speakers. They highlighted the importance of cultural intelligence in today’s globalised work environment.

Hands-on activities such as cultural knowledge quizzes and group discussions were also held. Students were encouraged to reflect on their own biases and explore ways to bridge cultural gaps. “The activities really helped me understand how small actions can make a big difference in creating an inclusive environment,” shared Lau Yong Sheng, a student from the course.

The Bridging Cultures: Enhancing Workplace Diversity workshop left students inspired and better prepared for the challenges of tomorrow’s workforce. Many expressed their appreciation for the event’s practical approach and its emphasis on actionable strategies. With plans for future workshops, Job Expert aims to continue empowering students to become champions of diversity and inclusion in their careers. This event was a steppingstone for many young individuals, reinforcing the idea that diversity is not just a workplace necessity but a strength that fuels success.
