The UTAR badminton team delivered an outstanding
performance at the ASICS MASISWA Badminton Tournament 2024, held from 19 to
24 November 2024 at the IOI Sports Centre, Putrajaya. The annual tournament
brought together athletes from both public higher education institutions
(IPTA) and private institutes of higher learning (IPTS), offering a platform
to showcase their talent and sportsmanship.
The UTAR team demonstrated remarkable skills and
determination, achieving momentous results in both team and individual
events. The players were Soo Jun Feng, Tan Ming Yue, Khoo Yong Jian, Chong
Xu Shen, Adeline Pang Zou Yun, Lim Yik Yong, Heng Ying En, Lim Xin Yi, Teo
Hong Kai and Dave Chong Jian.
In the Mixed Team event, they emerged as First
Runner-Up, securing a Silver Medal and RM1,500 in cash. In the individual
categories, players Tan Ming Yue earned Bronze Medals, with Tan Ming Yue and
Lim Xin Yi excelling in the Mixed Doubles and Teo Hong Kai and Dave Chong
Jian in the Men’s Doubles.
The players displayed resilience and teamwork
throughout the tournament, reflecting their commitment to excellence. Their
success underscores UTAR’s emphasis on developing well-rounded students
through sports and co-curricular activities.
In addition to their achievements on the court, the
UTAR badminton team has pledged to donate 20% of their prize money to the
Student Welfare Fund, aimed at supporting financially challenged students
within the university. The team has exemplified compassion and social
responsibility, highlighting UTAR’s core values of giving back to the
community and fostering inclusivity.
