Great minds gathered at the FBF Postgraduate Colloquium 2024, organised by the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) on 4 December 2024, at UTAR Kampar Campus, to explore the theme Building a Scholarly Community.
Present at the colloquium were FBF Acting Dean Dr Peter Tan Sin Howe, Deputy Director of Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research (Kampar Campus) Assoc Prof Dr Choong Yuen Onn, FBF Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Prof Dr Abdelhak Senadjki, heads of programmes, academics, faculty staff and presenters.
The colloquium kick-started with a keynote session by speaker and FBF academic Prof Dr Wong Chin Yoong titled “Making Knowledge Work for the Common Good”. He explained that academics are knowledge workers, whereby they produce and consume knowledge, and mentioned that production enables consumption, while consumption facilitates production. Participants learnt that knowledge is vital to facilitating teaching, research and services.
He also highlighted that knowledge, through research, can change the world. He supported this point by explaining the impact of knowledge on the relationship between unemployment and the rate of change of money; the analytical aspects of anti-inflation policy; and Malaysia’s industrialisation. The examples pointed out that the evolution of knowledge is transforming the world, and emphasised that teaching contributes to knowledge because it can influence a wider audience, and it is important to knowledge creation.
Next, two parallel sessions that discussed “Technology Adoption in the Digital Age”, “Globalisation and Digital Transformation”, “Organisation Management in the New Era”, and “Sustainable Economic Development” took place.
