The exchange ceremony for the Agreement on Mutual Credit Recognition  for the Master’s Programme between UTAR and Memorial University of Newfoundland  (MUN), Canada, on 10 December 2024, at UTAR Kampar Campus signified the  University’s strong commitment towards providing students with an enriching and  experiential learning. 
    
  This agreement  solidifies both institutions’ international collaboration on the master’s  programme, specifically for the Master of Applied Science in Environmental  Systems Engineering and Management offered by MUN and the Master of  Environmental Technology offered by UTAR. This two-year programme sees that  selected students are to complete their first year in the respective  institution and the following year at the partnering university. Upon  completion, these students will earn dual master’s degrees conferred by UTAR  and MUN.

At the ceremony,  UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong  Chee Keong commended, “This programme is truly beneficial for the students  because it enables them to experience the unique academic environments and  cultural landscapes of both Malaysia and Canada. The experience will also equip  them with a holistic and globally relevant education. We are confident that the  cross-cultural exposure and academic thoroughness offered by this partnership  will empower students to excel in their respective fields.”
    
  He added, “The  courses are also timely with the global focus on sustainability, as it provides  the students with the opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions and sustainable  practices to address critical environmental challenges, and thus also providing  an ideal platform for fostering interdisciplinary knowledge and practical  expertise.”

Prof Dr Bing  Chen, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, Professor and Research Chair, Faculty  of Engineering and Applied Science of MUN, also expressed his delight in the  collaboration and commented, “This programme brings together our shared goal  and approach to educate and support society on sustainability. Therefore, we  are very excited to kick-start and expand this collaboration as we also discuss  and explore other areas for potential collaborations.” 
    
  Accompanying  Prof Chen was Manager of International Programmes and Partnerships, Faculty of  Engineering and Applied Science Ms Sarah Teo. Meanwhile, UTAR representatives  also included Director for Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research Prof  Ts Dr Lim Yang Mooi, Office of International Affairs Deputy Director Dr Chen  I-Chi; and Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT) Dean Ir Prof Dr  Ng Choon Aun, Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Dr Lo Po Kim,  Head of MEnvTech and MSustConstMgt programmes Assoc Prof ChM Ts Dr Tan Kok Weng,  Head of PhD(Eng) and MEngSc programmes Dr Gobi Kanadasan, Department of  Environmental Engineering Head Assoc Prof Dr Zafarullah Nizamani,  Department of Industrial Engineering Head Dr Khoo Sze Wei, and other staff.
