Act of kindness brings sound to student's ears

UTAR is delighted to extend its heartfelt gratitude to Madam Tan, an esteemed donor and contributor to UTAR Relief Financial Aid for her generous support. Madam Tan has graciously sponsored a hearing aid amounting to RM3,500.00 to Bachelor of Science (Honours) Software Engineering student Tan Swee Yang who is pursuing his tertiary studies at Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science at Sungai Long Campus.

Tan, who suffers from Crohn’s disease, an incurable autoimmune disease, explained, “This disease can affect many different parts of the body. In my case, it has led to tinnitus and hearing loss. My doctor strongly suggested me to purchase a hearing aid to ease my daily life as a student. However, due to my financial struggle in a low-income single-parent household, I was considering omitting the purchase of the essential hearing aid to complete my studies.”

“But thanks to the help of the Department of Scholarships and Financial Aid (DSFA), I was able to receive this financial aid from Madam Tan. With this, I can listen to the lectures clearly, engage in conversations confidently, and lift the financial burden of my family,” said Tan as he expressed his sincere thanks to the DSFA and Madam Tan.

Tan finally added, “There are many resources available, no matter what challenges you face. Please reach out to the DSFA and explore your options. Be hopeful, and everything will work out in the end because everything is possible.”

Madam Tan’s compassion and generosity exemplify the spirit of giving that lies at the heart of UTAR’s mission. Madam Tan shared, “This act of kindness serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together to support those in need. It is through collective efforts that we can truly make a difference in humanity. Together, we can make a difference and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.”

UTAR hopes that Madam Tan’s generosity will inspire others to lend a helping hand to those in need. The University will continue its efforts in making a positive impact on the lives of its students.
