UTAR flagship an exciting 10KM Run Challenge to promote a balanced lifestyle

Amid the tranquil early morning, more than 100 participants took part in the first UTAR Melodic Strides 2024: 10KM Run Challenge – The Sunrise Sprint, held at UTAR Sports Complex, Kampar Campus on 25 February 2024.

Organised by UTAR Sports Club and the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) of UTAR Kampar Campus, the 10KM Run Challenge aimed to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle among UTAR students and staff as well as foster community engagement.

Thronged by the participants as early as 6.30am, the UTAR Sports Complex turned lively with the arrival of enthusiastic runners. As the commencement of the run approached, DSA Kampar Campus staff Mr Ngan Mun Fong, together with organising committee members, led the participants in a warm-up session.

Mr Ngan started the session with some basic warm-up and stretching exercises. Once the participants had adjusted to his pace, he elevated his performance, incorporating a series of exercises that seamlessly blended elements from rhythmic dancing.

The run was flagged off by DSA UTAR Kampar Campus Head Mr Chiang Jeng Fong, who was accompanied by Event Coordinator of UTAR Melodic Strides 2024: 10KM Run Challenge – The Sunrise Sprint Mr Zulhanizam bin Zakaria, Organising Chairperson of UTAR Melodic Strides 2024: 10KM Run Challenge – The Sunrise Sprint Ms Lam Yoke Kei and her Vice Chairperson Ms Chia Wan Thing. 

Highlighting the collective commitment to fostering a healthier community and embracing positive lifestyle changes, the Vice Organising Chairperson, Ms Chia welcomed the participants and enthused, “Today, we stand united in the spirit of health, camaraderie, and a shared love for fitness. The Sunrise Sprint is not just a race, it’s a celebration of our commitment to well-being and the joy of coming together as a community. Today, we have participants from all walks of life, each with their own unique stories and reasons for being here. Some are seasoned runners, while others are taking their first steps into the world of running. No matter where you fall on that spectrum, remember that today is about embracing the challenge and celebrating the journey.”

The participants in the 10KM Run Challenge crossed the finishing line, celebrating their achievement with a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie. The list of winners is as follows:

Champion: Vijiyasanggaran a/l Rajendran
Time record: 0.32 40’’

First Runner-up: Dennis Mulwa Isika
Time record: 0.32 58’’

Second Runner-up: Wong Yi Ze
Time record: 0.33 03’’

Third Runner-up: Mohammad Ramzan Jani bin Mohd Pittli
Time record: 0.34 20’’

Fourth Runner-up: Khoo Shao Enn
Time record: 0.36 04’’

The winning participants not only received well-deserved cash prizes but also earned certificates, recognising their remarkable accomplishments in the competition. The champion claimed RM400, the first runner-up secured RM300, the second runner-up was awarded RM200, the third runner-up received RM150, and the fourth runner-up took home RM100.

The 10KM Run Challenge was also filled with a series of exciting performances by UTAR students. It was then followed by the “Melodic Strides 2024: Melodic Nostalgia Musical Theatre” on the same day at 7pm at Dewan Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, Kampar Campus. The Melodic Nostalgia Musical Theatre was a series of vibrant performances featuring local artists and UTAR talents.

Combining a health-focused event like the “Melodic Strides 2024: 10KM Run Challenge – The Sunrise Sprint” with a cultural event like the “Melodic Nostalgia Musical Theatre” created a well-rounded and engaging experience for the UTAR community.

UTAR is proud to provide a holistic and memorable experience for participants while promoting the values of health, wellness, and cultural appreciation within the UTAR community.
