Collaborating with Hungkuang University for a cultural exchange programme

UTAR through its Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) at Sungai Long Campus embarked on an engaging cultural exchange programme from 6 to 13 August 2023, welcoming 21 staff and students from Hungkuang University. The immersive programme aimed to foster cross-cultural understanding between the two parties.

The programme kickstarted with an opening ceremony, inaugurating a week of exploration and knowledge sharing. UTAR DSSC set the tone for a series of modules, beginning with Photoplethysmography (PPG) Signal Processing and Physiological Parameter Extraction. The day continued with a visit to the serene Putra Mosque in Putrajaya.

The participants were introduced to Cell Culture Techniques at a hands-on workshop in Module 2. The exchange of cultural insights added depth to the academic sessions. An evening at the bustling night market offered participants a taste of Malaysian street life.

Module 3 introduced participants to 3D printing and its application for wearable sensor fabrication, merging technology with practical applications. The exploration continued with visits to the Batu Malai Sri Murugan Temple at Batu Caves and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Module 4 delved into the Biomechanics of Human Gait Analysis, offering participants a scientific perspective on human movement. The programme also included a visit to the Malaysian Chinese Museum, providing insights into the country’s diverse cultural tapestry. The week concluded with a tantalising Malaysian Food Workshop and a Wireless ECG Acquisition Workshop.

As the programme drew to a close, participants gathered for a memorable closing ceremony on 11 August 2023 to cherish the friendships forged and experiences shared during their time together.

The collaboration between UTAR and Hungkuang University served as a beacon for international education, fostering innovation, cultural understanding, and collaboration among future leaders in technology and beyond.
