Hosting cultural exchange visitors from Wuhan Polytechnic University

UTAR Department of Soft Skills Competency of Sungai Long Campus played host to an enriching international cultural programme, welcoming 22 staff and students from Wuhan Polytechnic University for a week-long cultural exchange. The programme, which took place from 23 July 2023 to 5 August 2023, witnessed an array of activities, fostering cross-cultural understanding and friendship.

The journey began with a warm welcome at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, followed by an opening ceremony at UTAR. The event showcased the university’s commitment to international collaboration. Campus tours and student interaction sessions allowed the participants to familiarise themselves with UTAR’s vibrant academic environment.

The cultural immersion continued with activities such as Malaysia Culture Sharing and an exploration of Malaysia and China’s unique architectural landscapes. A visit to the night market added a touch of local flavour, allowing the students to experience Malaysia’s bustling street life.

The participants were also given the chance to delve into Malaysia’s diverse food culture through a workshop at the “Sehari” which provided them with insights into the country’s aboriginal settlements. Visits to iconic sites like the Putra Mosque, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Malaysia Chinese Museum provided historical context to Malaysia’s rich heritage.

The visit to UTAR Kampar Campus, UTAR Hospital, and the Tin Mining Museum provided an insight into Malaysia’s educational and industrial landscape.

A Kuala Lumpur city tour, featuring landmarks like Batu Caves and the Kwai Chai Hong, was also organised for the participants. The programme also featured a traditional Malay dance workshop and a cultural sharing by Wuhan Polytechnic University, enhancing the participants’ appreciation for each other’s heritage.

The participants also had an opportunity to explore Malaysian entrepreneurship by visiting SMEs like Chop Guan Kee Coffee Sdn Bhd and the Dragon Fruit Farm. A unique encounter with Malaysia’s King of Fruits— durian, added a delicious twist to the cultural exchange.

The programme concluded with a tour of the New Village, namely the Wave Rest House and Cafe. The participants engaged in a second round of traditional Malay dance workshops before wrapping up the event with a memorable closing ceremony.

As the participants bid farewell to each other at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the exchange left an indelible mark, fostering international friendships and understanding. UTAR’s commitment to cross-cultural exchange shines bright as it continues to create opportunities for global connections and experiences.
