UTAR forges partnership with AIA Digital + Malaysia
Signifying the shared commitment to equip future talents with critical skills and tools, and empowering them to learn and thrive in the dynamic world of technology, digital and analytics, UTAR and AIA Digital + Malaysia officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 19 January 2024 at Menara AIA Sentral in Kuala Lumpur.
The MoU was signed by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Head of Group IT Operations and General Manager, ITM Group Tech of AIA Digital + Malaysia Mr Marcel Malan. It was witnessed by UTAR Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) Dean Prof Ts Dr Liew Soung Yue and Senior Manager of Human Resources, ITM HR of AIA Digital + Malaysia Ms Nur Shuhana.
Under this MoU, both UTAR and AIA Digital + Malaysia will share expertise and joint development in IT solutions and data analytics for insurance. Other activities such as workshops, training and conferences will also be jointly organised to enhance the exchange of ideas and facilities for research and curriculum development purposes. It is believed that these activities will also provide staff and students with important insights into emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data science and cybersecurity.
Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed, “AIA Digital + Malaysia is a renowned name in the digital realm, and today’s collaboration brings with it a wealth of opportunities for our students. By joining forces, we aim to create a dynamic environment that nurtures creativity, entrepreneurship, and cutting-edge research. The exchange of ideas, knowledge, and resources between our institution and AIA Digital + will undoubtedly contribute to the holistic development of our academic community.”
He further emphasised, “I would like to express my gratitude to the team at AIA Digital + for recognising the potential of this partnership. Their vision aligns seamlessly with our commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of our students. The partnership with AIA Digital + opens doors to internships, mentorship programmes, and real-world projects that will enhance UTAR students’ learning experience and better prepare them for the professional landscape.”
AIA’s Group Head of IT Operations and General Manager, Mr Marcel Malan, shared the importance of this promising collaboration in an increasingly digital world. He said, “This MoU encourages a culture of continuous learning where individuals understand the importance of staying updated on technological advancements. AIA Digital + Malaysia is indeed proud to establish partnerships with UTAR to provide insights into current trends and industry best practices.”
Also representing UTAR at the ceremony were UTAR Office of International Affairs Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn and FICT Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Choo Peng Yin.
Other attendees include, Manager of Human Resources Ms Michelle Lee and UTAR alumni who are currently working at AIA Digital + Malaysia.
The ceremony came to an end with the exchange of souvenirs between both organisations.
