The signing ceremony of the
memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UTAR and the Association of Energy
Engineers Malaysia Chapter was held on 19 January 2024 at Sungai Long
Campus. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat
and Association of Energy Engineers Malaysia Chapter President Mr Man Kim
Toong. Witnessing the signing ceremony were UTAR Vice President for
Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min and
Association of Energy Engineers Malaysia Chapter Secretary Mr Lai Fook
Siang.
The MoU aimed to foster
collaborative research in sustainable energy practices and solutions,
knowledge exchange, joint development, and educational initiatives,
including staff exchanges, industrial study visits and industrial placement
for students.
Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “One of the
pivotal aspects of this collaboration is the commitment to strengthen the
bond between industry and academia. We recognise the vital role that such
partnerships play in fostering innovation and bridging the gap between
theoretical knowledge and real-world application. By working hand in hand
with the AEE Malaysia Chapter, we aim to create a synergy that benefits not
only our academic community but also the energy industry at large.”
Mr Man said, “AEE Malaysia Chapter
aims to advance energy engineering and promote sustainable practices in
Malaysia through education, collaboration and advocacy. We are delighted to
be partnering with UTAR in fostering innovation and knowledge exchange in
the energy sector to create a sustainable future.”
Representing the AEE Malaysia
Chapter were its Vice President Mr Tan Lim Soon Fu, and committee members Mr
Terie Leong, Mr Gokulakiran Sannasy, and Mr Mohd Fadzil Rahman. Also present
at the MoU signing ceremony were Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and
Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, LKC FES Deputy Dean for
Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee,
Centre for Railway Infrastructure and Engineering Chairperson Assoc Prof Ir
Dr Chua Kein Huat, Office of International of Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc
Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn and Centre for Corporate and Community Development
Director Ms Lim Guat Yen.
