Heartana Capital Berhad visits UTAR to discuss potential collaboration

UTAR received guests from Heartana Capital Berhad at UTAR Kampar Campus on 29 January 2024.

The visitors were Heartana Capital Berhad Group Director Ms Jessica Tan, Heartana Capital Berhad representatives Datuk C.K. Chong and Mr Joseph Tan; Heartana Enlighten Sdn Bhd Director Ken Eng, Ay Kang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd representative Shih-Che Tseng, and delegates from Heartana Capital Berhad.

They were welcomed by Faculty of Science (FSc) Dean Assoc Prof Dr Lim Tuck Meng, FSc Deputy Dean for Research and Development and Postgraduate Programmes Dr Phoon Lee Quen, FSc Head of Department of Allied Health Sciences Dr Teh Lai Kuan, Centre for Biomedical and Nutrition Research Chairperson Dr Eddy Cheah Seong Guan, FSc academic Assoc Prof Dr Chai Tsun Thai, Office of International Affairs (OIA) Deputy Director Dr Chen, I-Chi, and UTAR staff.

The meeting between both parties was aimed at initiating a path to potential collaboration in the field of traditional and complementary medicine. The agenda of the discussion included joint research in herbal medicine, internship programme, study tour and student exchange programme.

Both parties expressed a keen interest in exploring the research effort in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, specifically the research of agarwood, herbal tea and herbs. Besides that, both parties also expressed their interest in setting up internship programmes for the students from psychology, dietetics, and Chinese medicine programmes, which further aimed to create more jobs and research opportunities as well as streamline healthcare graduates’ resources in the future.

The visit ended with a group photography session and a tour of the UTAR Hospital.
