On 21 June 2024, the Centre for Extension Education
(CEE) hosted a memorable welcome party and briefing event for the exchange
students at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. Seventy exchange students from various
universities participated in the event, which aimed to introduce them to the
University and its resources, fostering a sense of community and cultural
exchange.

The event kicked off with staff and buddy students
preparing and guiding the exchange students. This was followed by a
comprehensive briefing session by the staff from
the Centre for Extension Education
(CEE). The briefing covered crucial information such as MOOC questionnaires,
details about the student exchange programme, connectivity to UTAR WiFi, and
available English classes.
After the initial briefing by CEE, an ice-breaking session was conducted by buddy students. The activities included self-introductions and briefings on the UTAR Portal, student timetables, and tools such as UTAR WBLE and Microsoft Teams. This session facilitated a smooth transition for the exchange students into their new academic environment.

Following that, another briefing by the Division of
International Student Services (DISS) provided essential information
regarding post-arrival medical check-ups, student pass applications,
insurance and medical claims, and procedures for the cancellation of student
passes and refund processes.
During lunch, UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe
Hong Tat delivered a heartfelt welcome address. In his speech, Prof Dato’
Ewe underscored the importance of international exchanges in fostering
cooperation and understanding between different cultures.

“This student exchange programme with other
universities is more than just an academic opportunity. It is a bridge that
connects many cultures, fosters mutual understanding, and promotes global
citizenship. We are excited to provide you with an environment where you can
learn, grow, and immerse yourselves in new experiences,” said Prof Dato’
Ewe.
Notable figures were present at the event, including
UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir
Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Centre for Extension Education (CEE) Director and
Division of Programme Promotion (DPP) Acting Director Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim
Jee Hock, buddy students, and other UTAR staff. Their presence added to the
significance of the occasion.

The seventy exchange students consisted of students
from Dezhou University (DZU), China; Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine
(GXUCM), China; Warmadewa University (UNWAR), Indonesia; Zhejiang Chinese
Medical University (ZCMU), China; and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
(PolyU), Hong Kong. This diverse group had the opportunity to interact,
share experiences, and build lasting connections.
The event concluded with an optional campus tour led
by buddy students. The tour included key facilities such as the DSSC and
DISS administrative offices, the library, computer labs, gymnasium, and
student areas, ensuring that the exchange students were well-acquainted with
their new surroundings.
Overall, the “Exchange Student Welcome Party and
Briefing at UTAR Sungai Long Campus” event was successful, setting a
positive tone for the students’ stay and studies at the University.
