CFS Kampar students’ educational trip to coffee powder manufacturing company
The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised an educational trip to Keng Choon Coffee Sdn Bhd, a coffee powder manufacturing company in Teluk Intan, Perak, on 29 June 2024.
Deputy Director for Student Affairs and Development of CFS Kampar, Mr Lim Khiew Loon, along with the Team Lead of the Student Development Committee, Mr Remie Lee Ren-Yi, led 30 Foundation students on the trip.
Aimed at providing students with learning opportunities from the industry and exploring the technology and techniques employed by the coffee manufacturer in their product manufacturing, the participants experienced an enriching educational trip.
Upon arrival, the participants were warmly welcomed by the Director, Mr Mai Teik Pow. The group proceeded to the demonstration room and was introduced to the factory’s background, workflow and facilities. They also participated in a sample coffee tasting.
Subsequently, Mr Mai guided the participants on a comprehensive factory tour, giving detailed explanations of how Cap Arnab coffee powder is made. The manufacturing process involved mixing and blending raw materials with different categories of coffee beans, followed by roasting, grinding, drying, packing, and finally, quality assurance checking. He also shared insights on the marketing strategies, major challenges with the supply of raw materials from local sources and Indonesia, and the difficulties faced during the MCO period.
The visit concluded with Mr Lim expressing gratitude to Mr Mai by presenting a token of appreciation, followed by a group photo in front of the company.
The students then continued their educational visit to the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan, which once served as a water tank during the dry season. They spent their evening at one of the famous 3D wall paintings of Teluk Intan, checking in and taking photos.
After the trip, the participants shared their excitement about the experience and indicated that it was memorable. They were glad to have had the opportunity to learn more about the local coffee-making process and the struggles of traditional industries, and to engage with the community.
