Generous donations raised at UTAR Hospital charity dinner to aid
underprivileged patients
UTAR Hospital charity dinner
The “Culinary Feast Charity Dinner” for UTAR Hospital
was a tremendous success, raising RM481,168 in support of the UTAR Hospital
Patient Welfare Fund. Held on 5 July 2024 at the HXC Grand Ballroom, ICC
Pudu, the event gathered approximately 600 guests
for a night dedicated to philanthropy and
community spirit.
Organised by UTAR along with the Asia Chinese Traders Federation and
Taiwan Chefs Association, the event saw the attendance of Member of the
Malaysian Parliament for Tanjung Piai YB Dato’ Sri Dr Wee Jeck Seng,
Chairman of UTAR Hospital Board YBhg Ir Academician Emeritus Prof Tan Sri
Dato’ Seri Dr Chuah Hean Teik, President of UTAR YBhg Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe

The highlight of the evening was the appetisers
featuring Taiwanese cuisine, prepared by 17 renowned chefs from the Taiwan
Chefs Association. Guests enjoyed delicacies like salt and pepper chicken,
Taiwanese sausage wrapped in sticky rice, Taiwanese radish cake, and bubble
milk tea. The main dinner featured a fusion of traditional and innovative
dishes, including double-boiled mango with sago, superior soup with
scallops, and steamed glutinous rice with sakura shrimp.

Tan Sri Chuah presented an update on the progress and forthcoming plans
of UTAR Hospital and said, “The hospital, which commenced operations in
August 2023, had more than 5,600 patient visits as of last month. Our
specialised team includes experts in various medical fields. As of May 2024,
we registered 12,699 new patients and reached a 90% daily usage capacity in
Ward A, prompting expansion plans. UTAR Hospital is truly a hospital built
‘by the people, for the people,’ and we are immensely grateful to all who
have made the hospital a reality. Looking ahead, the hospital plans to
expand wards and introduce traditional Malay medicine to enrich its
offerings. Upholding the principle of 'by the people, for the people’, the hospital aims to integrate new technology and methodologies to
promote sustainable development in the health sector.”

Prof Dato’ Ewe, in his speech, expressed profound gratitude to the Asia
Chinese Traders Federation, MCA, the Taiwan Chefs Association, and all
partners for their unwavering support. “Their selfless contributions have
made the charity banquet a resounding success,” he said. He emphasised the
hospital’s mission, saying, “We are gathered here not only to enjoy a
culinary feast but also to support a noble cause. Our hospital is dedicated
to providing high-quality medical care and nurturing the next generation of
medical professionals. The generous support from tonight’s event will
significantly contribute to our patient welfare fund.”

Mr Kang thanked UTAR and the Taiwan Chefs Association
for their cooperation. “We chose the UTAR Hospital fundraising event because
we believe in supporting the underprivileged and elderly. We have been
meticulously preparing for this charity dinner for the past three months,”
he said.
The evening also featured a performance by UTAR Sungai Long Campus’s 24
Festive Drums, song and dance performances by UTAR students, and a special
performance by invited Malaysian artists. A souvenir presentation session
was held to appreciate the culinary contributions of the chefs from the
association.
