To foster hands-on learning and advance Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, UTAR STEM Outreach Unit collaborated with the Division of Programme Promotion (DPP) to organise a series of STEM Workshops at eight schools in Sibu, Sarawak. Titled “Creative Science Drama”, the workshops, held from 9 July 2024 to 12 July 2024, were spearheaded by Dr Ong Kiah Ju.
The workshops were conducted at SMK Sacred Heart and SMK Saint Elizabeth on the first day. The event saw the participation of 78 students and five teachers from SMK Sacred Heart, and 80 students and two teachers from SMK Saint Elizabeth. On the second day, Dr Ong conducted workshops at SMK Rosli Dhoby, attended by 74 students and two teachers, and SMK Deshon, with 55 students and two teachers.
On the third day, Dr Ong led workshops at SMJK Tung Hua with 75 students and five teachers, Wong Nai Siong Secondary School with 40 students and four teachers, and Catholic High School with 60 students and three teachers. The final day saw a workshop at SMK Methodist, attended by 84 students and three teachers.

During the workshops, Dr Ong guided the students in implementing creative science drama, which included creating storylines and dialogues, identifying characters, practising and performing, preparing scenes, props, and costumes, adding sound effects, and presenting the science drama. The workshop was highly engaging, fostering a deeper understanding among teachers and students about the fun of learning and teaching science subjects.
