UTAR signs MoU with Shanxi Institute of Technology, China

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between UTAR and Shanxi Institute of Technology (SXIT), China via VooV Meeting on 10 July 2024. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and SXIT Vice President Prof Dr Mu Mangen. UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong represented Prof Dato’ Ewe at the ceremony.

The MoU aimed to enhance academic qualifications through joint talent training, facilitate scientific research collaboration, promote teaching exchanges and joint online course development, facilitate credit transfer, and encourage short-term research activities to foster mutual understanding of history, culture and student training methods.

Prof Choong enthused, “SXIT is one of the first batch of applied undergraduate universities in Shanxi Province that integrates industry-education and school-enterprise cooperation. It is committed to cultivating high-quality talents, and has a solid research foundation and rich practical experience.

He added, “This partnership is an important force in promoting local industrial upgrading. The cooperation between the two schools will undoubtedly bring new development opportunities and cooperation space for both parties.”

Prof Mu expressed, “This MoU reflects the mutual trust and collaborative efforts of both parties. It marks a significant milestone in our school’s journey towards internationalisation. We aspire to learn from one another, advance scientific research, and share teaching concepts and methods. Together, we aim to foster the high-quality development of higher education.”

Also present at the event were representatives from SXIT Academic Affairs Division, College Office and International Exchange and Cooperation Division. Representatives from UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), Centre for International Student Recruitment and Education Collaboration (CISREC), Office of International Affairs (OIA) and Division of Corporate Communication & Public Relations (DCCPR) were present as well.
