UTAR seals MoU with Top Glove Worldwide

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held between UTAR and Top Glove Worldwide Sdn Bhd on 19 July 2024. The MoU aimed to foster a closer relationship between academia and industry. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Top Glove Worldwide Sdn Bhd Group HR General Manager Ms Loh Xzee Ling.

The MoU outlined several key initiatives aimed at preparing UTAR students for the competitive job market. Under the MoU, both parties will facilitate internships and industrial training opportunities for UTAR students to gain insights into the workings of a leading global corporation and allow them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Furthermore, the collaboration extends to enhancing students’ career prospects through participation in career fairs and employment activities and providing talent development programmes to equip students with specialised skills that are highly sought after in the industry.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “At UTAR, we recognise the pivotal role that industry-academia collaboration plays in preparing our students for the challenges of the modern workplace. The significance of industry-academia collaboration cannot be overstated. It not only enriches our educational programmes but also drives innovation and economic growth.”

Ms Loh said, “We are excited by the continuation of our journey of collaboration, mutual growth, and shared vision for the future. Education and industry must work hand in hand to drive innovation, solve real-world challenges, and prepare the next generation of leaders and professionals.”

Top Glove Worldwide was represented by its Group HR Senior Manager Ms Mandy Tan, Recruitment & Branding Manager Ms Michelle Teh, Group HR Recruiters Ms Santhiya, Ms Nur Faqihah, Mr Raymond Yap and Ms Kimberly Tan, and staff. Representing UTAR were Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT) Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes and Centre for Corporate and Community Development Deputy Director Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Leong Kah Hon, FEGT academic Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Toh Pey Yi, Office of International Affairs (OIA) Deputy Director Dr Chen I-Chi and OIA Senior Assistant Manager Ms Chin Sau Lai.
