UTAR T&CM Centre provides heat relief to Kampar communities

UTAR T&CM Centre staff rejoice after the successful campaign

UTAR Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) Centre successfully organised the “SanFuTie” Campaign on 25 July 2024 at the T&CM Centre, attracting more than 200 participants.

The season of the utmost warmth brings an abundance of joy and vibrance to earth, though summer also brings various health issues to many people, such as dehydration, heat stroke, high body temperature, and heavy sweating. Although Malaysia lacks the typical four seasonal climates, heat-related issues will always be treated as subjects of high focus in the land where perpetual summer lives.

To alleviate these issues, UTAR T&CM Centre joined efforts with the Guangxi-Malaysia Center of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, providing Sanfutie to the Kampar communities.

The first 200 registrants were provided free Sanfutie treatment. Meanwhile, the registrants who applied for treatments after the 200th individual were given discounted prices of RM30 (UTAR staff and students) and RM50 (public). The package includes three treatment sessions of Sanfutie, which fall on 25 July, 14 and 23 August 2024.

Originating from the Qing dynasty, Sanfutie is a medicated patch, containing a paste of herbs, which is used in the treatment of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). With its principle of “curing winter disease in the summer”, Sanfutie is usually applied three times by TCM practitioners, especially in the hottest points of summer in the lunar calendar, Sanfu (三伏), which begins from July to August.

The Sanfutie treatment is widely proven by modern research to provide health benefits. Applying the medicated patch on specific acupuncture points helps regulate body temperature, strengthen the immune system and improve breathing rhythm, which ultimately leads to the effective prevention of disease.
