Guangzhou City Construction College dive into Malaysian culture with UTAR

UTAR was thrilled to welcome 21 students and one staff member from Guangzhou City Construction College (GZCCC) for the “Explore Malaysia, Truly Asia!” inbound student mobility programme that took place from 14 to 21 July 2024. The programme was designed to offer an immersive experience, fostering international understanding and collaboration, and strengthening the bond between UTAR and GZCCC.


Ice-breaking session and campus tour

The programme began with a warm reception at Kuala Lumpur International Airport where the group was welcomed by a team of UTAR staff. An opening ceremony at UTAR introduced the visitors to the university’s vibrant environment, followed by a comprehensive campus tour. Participants also engaged in an ice-breaking session, encouraging interaction and camaraderie among students.

The highlight of the week was the tour around the city of Kuala Lumpur, which included visits to iconic sites, such as Batu Malai Sri Murugan Temple (Batu Caves), Central Market, Petaling Street, Kwai Zai Hong, and Suria KLCC. The tour enabled students to immerse themselves in the local culture and history, providing a rich, first-hand experience of the city’s diversity.

Throughout the programme, students participated in various cultural workshops and visits. A notable event was the visit to Putra Mosque in Putrajaya for cultural exposure. The group had the opportunity to learn about Malaysia’s Islamic heritage. Another significant event included the visit to the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre, where students engaged in a workshop, offering them a practical insight into Malaysia’s traditional crafts. Additionally, students took part in a batik workshop, providing a hands-on experience in creating traditional Malaysian fabric art.

The programme also included a day trip to Melaka, featuring visits to historical sites, such as the Muzium Samudera, A Famosa, Church of Saint Paul, and Christ Church Melaka. The excursion provided a deep dive into Malaysia’s colonial history and multicultural heritage. Additionally, students had the chance to explore local attractions and enjoy lunch at Jonker Street.

The programme concluded with a closing ceremony, celebrating the friendships and cultural exchanges that have taken place. The participants departed for Kuala Lumpur International Airport, taking with them unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of Malaysian culture. The initiative not only enriched the educational journey of the GZCCC students but also laid the groundwork for future collaborations between UTAR and GZCCC.
