UTAR took part in the 2024 “Study
in Guangxi” International Education Expo on 29 May 2024 at the Sunway
Pyramid Convention Centre. The event was organised by the Department of
Education of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The expo, which aimed at
fostering international educational exchange and collaboration, highlighted
Guangxi’s commitment to global academic partnerships.
UTAR Vice President for
Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min
attended the expo on behalf of UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat.
Also present at the event were UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering
and Science (LKC FES) Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial
Training Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Faculty of Accountancy and Management
(FAM) Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Sr Dr Chin Hon Choong,
Centre for International Student Recruitment and Education Collaboration
(CISREC) Deputy Director Ms Irene Wong Hong Lei, Office of International
Affairs (OIA) Senior Assistant Manager Ms Liu Dan and OIA Assistant Managers
Ms Wang Yiling and Ms Goo Yi Qun.
The opening ceremony was a significant event, bringing together 36 higher education institutions from across Guangxi. It provided a unique platform for these institutions to present their educational programmes and explore collaborative opportunities with international partners. During the expo, Prof Goi also engaged in three significant signing ceremonies.

The first signing was with Guangxi
University of Finance and Economics (GXUFE), establishing a Student Exchange
Agreement (SEA) to promote academic cooperation and student exchanges. The
signatories were Prof Goi and GXUFE Department of International Cooperation
and Exchange Deputy Director Ms Liu Sulan.

The second agreement signing was a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Guilin Medical University (GLMU),
which focused on collaborative research projects, joint educational
programmes, and academic exchanges. The signatories were Prof Goi and GLMU
College of International Education Dean and Office of International
Cooperation and Exchange Director Assoc Prof Dr Qin Tao.
The third MoU involved a
tripartite collaboration with Nanning College for Vocational Technology
(NCVT) and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for the establishment of
the “China-Malaysia Institute of Modern Craftsmanship”. The signatories were
Prof Goi, NCVT Vice President Prof Dr Huang Chunbo and Huawei Technologies
(Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Vice President Mr Oliver Liu.
The 2024 “Study in Guangxi” International Education Expo was an invaluable opportunity for UTAR to reinforce its international presence and build meaningful relationships with prominent educational institutions from China.
