MoU between UTAR Hospital and MND Malaysia

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed to formalise partnerships between UTAR Hospital, which was represented by UTAR T&CM Centre, and Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND) Malaysia on 23 May 2024 at UTAR T&CM Centre, Kampar, Perak.

The MoU aimed to explore areas for cooperation, facilitate exchanges of ideas and facilities among the parties including the promotion of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine treatments to MND patients, facilitate research activities for the benefits of MND patients, and explore joint collaborative projects in the future.

Signing the MoU were UTAR Hospital CEO and Medical Director Prof Dr Lau Hui-Ping and MND Association Malaysia Chairman Mr Benny Ng Ah Thiam, witnessed by MND Association Malaysia Committee Member Mr Lim Peng Seng and UTAR Traditional and Complementary Medicine Centre Director Assoc Prof Dr Te Kian Keong.

Also present from MND Association Malaysia were Ms Leow Hoay Hoay and Madam Sharon Low along with their committee members.

The ceremony reached its highlight with Prof Lau and Mr Benny Ng signing and exchanging the MoU documents. Curtains were drawn after a group photograph and souvenir presentation session.

MND Malaysia is the sole non-profit organisation in the country dedicated to supporting the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) community. Founded to serve as a comprehensive platform for MND, it aims not only to raise awareness among those affected but also to educate the public about the disease. Officially registered in 2014 as Persatuan Penyakit Motor Neuron Malaysia, MND Malaysia collaborates with the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) to offer a specialised MND Clinic that diagnoses and tracks the progression of the disease. The organisation was established by a distinguished group of medical experts who are leaders in Neurology, Palliative Care, and Neurorehabilitation.
