The
representatives of Guangxi universities and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous
Region Department of Education with UTAR staff
Representatives from 26 higher
education institutions in Guangxi Province visited UTAR Sungai Long Campus
on 27 May 2024. They were led by the Department of Education of the Guangxi
Zhuang Autonomous Region.
A meeting was held, attended by
UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Department of Education of
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Office Deputy Head Mr Xu Wenqiang, Guangxi
University of Chinese Medicine (GXUCM) Vice President Prof Dr He Gangliang,
UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof
Ts Dr Yap Wun She, Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) Dean Assoc Prof Dr
Chong Siou Wei, along with Vice-Presidents, directors, deputy deans,
representatives from 26 Guangxi universities, and UTAR staff.
Emphasising the strong cooperation between UTAR and Guangxi and its universities, Prof Dato’ Ewe highlighted that UTAR has formed partnerships with over 130 universities in China. Notably, it has established a solid foundation of collaboration with six partner universities in Guangxi, including Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine. Prof Dato’ Ewe also mentioned UTAR’s partnerships with Chinese enterprises such as Alibaba and Huawei, and its significant achievements in the medical field, especially in traditional Chinese medicine. He underscored the importance of this year marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China and expressed his hope for continued and enhanced cooperation in the future.

Prof He expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and thanked UTAR on behalf of the Guangxi International Education team for promoting cooperation and exchanges with the Guangxi universities. He provided an overview of higher education in Guangxi, highlighting the close educational collaboration between Guangxi and Malaysia, including the enrolment of ASEAN students, the development of the “Study in Guangxi” brand, and the establishment of scholarships. Prof He is looking forward to increasing cooperation and exchanges in education between the two sides in the future. He proposed deepening this cooperation by establishing a communication mechanism, promoting scientific research collaborations, and strengthening exchanges in overseas studies. Additionally, he expressed his hope that UTAR could visit Guangxi.

Following the speeches by Prof
Dato’ Ewe and Prof He, the Director of the Office of International Affairs
(OIA), Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, provided a detailed introduction of UTAR
to the visitors. This was followed by a productive exchange, where both
parties discussed various topics including student and staff exchanges,
academic cooperation, and joint research projects.
The higher education institutions that participated in this visit were Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, Guangxi Arts University, Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities, Hezhou University, Guangxi Transport Vocational and Technical College, Nanning College for Vocational Technology, Liuzhou Railway Vocational Technical College, Guangxi Vocational University of Agriculture, Guilin Medical University, Wuzhou University, Hechi University, Guangxi Vocational & Technical College, Guilin University of Electronic Technology, Guangxi University of Science and Technology, Nanning Normal University, Guangxi University of Finance And Economics, Guilin Tourism University, Guangxi Minzu Normal University, Beibu Gulf University, Liuzhou Vocational & Technical College, Baise University, Guangxi University, Guangxi Normal University, Guangxi Medical University and Liuzhou City Vocational College.
