MoU exchange with Yangzhou University, China

The exchange ceremony of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UTAR and Yangzhou University (YZU), China took place on 4 June 2024 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.

The MoU outlined initiatives for collaboration, including joint international research projects, talent training programmes, and academic exchanges through faculty visits for research and teaching. The MoU also aimed to support student mobility programmes, internships, and joint supervision of master’s and doctoral programmes.

Present at the event were YZU Vice President Prof Dr Han Jie, Financial Department Director Prof Dr Hua Qingjun, College of Humanities Administrative Dean and Associate Researcher Assoc Prof Dr Li Huaijun, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Vice Dean Prof Dr Wu Defeng, College of International Studies Vice Dean Assoc Prof Dr Zhang Qiang and College for Overseas Education academic Ms Zhao Lu.

UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Institute of Chinese Studies Dean and Confucius Institute Director Assoc Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn and OIA Assistant Manager Ms Wang Yiling were present as well.

Prof Goi expressed, “Yangzhou University and UTAR have a long-established friendship, especially in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, where our students and teachers have close exchanges.”

“We will further leverage our unique strengths, support and learn from each other, and carry out in-depth cooperation in other fields, so as to make greater contributions to cultivating more outstanding talents and promoting the development of education in the two countries,” he added.

Prof Han said, “This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and China. We hope to perpetuate the amicable ties between our nations through this MoU. Apart from formalising the MoU between Yangzhou University and UTAR, we hope to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of medicine, engineering, arts, and more. We seek to deepen cooperation in teacher research and jointly organise relevant professional academic conferences.”
