The 7th Seminar on the Twin Parks Cooperation between China and Malaysia

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations, the 7th Seminar on Twin Parks Cooperation between China and Malaysia was successfully held at the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park (CMQIP) in China on 30 May 2024. Themed Contributing to China-Malaysian Friendship and Enhancing People-to-People Connectivity, the seminar  attracted about 50 experts and scholars from Malaysia and China.  

UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He said, “The Twin Parks Seminar serves as a practical platform in bridging academia and industry, fostering in-depth discussions and idea exchanges among experts and scholars from both countries. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Twin Parks Seminar persevered and returned physically in 2023, after three years of online sessions.”

In addition, Guangxi Minzhu University Vice President Mr He Lirong, Deputy Director-General of the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee, Mr Zuo Kongtian, General Manager of Guangxi Cultural Industry Group Co., Ltd., Ms Zheng Juan and Deputy Secretary of Guangxi China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd., Mr Chen Dingsong also delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.

The discussion during the Seminar

The 7th Twin Parks Seminar covered a wide range of topics, including China-Malaysian economic and trade relations, Twin Parks cooperation, economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation. Among the presenters from UTAR were Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu, Dr Goh Hong Lip, Dr Ngoo Yee Ting, Dr Fok Kuk Fai, Dr Tey Sheik Kyin, Dr Amalina from the Belt and Road Strategic Research Centre (BRSRC), as well as Dr Tan Wooi Yee from Centre for International Studies (CIS) and Assoc Prof Dr Tan Ai Boay from Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS).  Other participants from Malaysia were Mr Hao Le from Malaysia-China Kuantan International Logistics Park (MCKILP), Mr Lim Lee Hock from NCT PMC Sdn Bhd, Dr Ang Lay Hoon from UPM, Dr Phuah Kit Teng and Dr Lim Chia Yien from TAR UMT.

A briefing of the CMQIP

The participants went on a field visit to gain insights into the latest developments at the CMQIP. They visited key sites such as the bird’s nest processing and trade base, as well as Qinzhou’s Beibu Gulf Automated Terminal.
