Effective study skills talk at SMJK Shing Chung
In a pursuit to equip students with essential study skills that would enhance their learning outcome, UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised a talk titled “Effective study skills” at SMJK Shing Chung on 7 June 2024. Held as part of the UTAR-SMJK Shing Chung Talent Development Project, the enlightening event involved 93 Form Five students.
The talk was conducted by Mr Teo Kim Foo, the chairman of the Malaysia Memory Sports Organisation. Mr Teo captivated the audience with his engaging presentation, covering topics such as effective learning steps, the functions of the brain, and powerful memory techniques. He also shared practical tips for effective learning that students could immediately put into practice. The session concluded with a contest, where students enthusiastically applied their newly learned skills in a fun and interactive manner.
The feedback from students and teachers was overwhelmingly positive. Loo Xian Qing from Class 5V shared, “I learned a lot today, especially the right way to remember things. I hope to attend similar talks in the future.”
Jeremy Ang How Yi from Class 5M4 commented, “This talk was exceptionally good. I am impressed by how one can remember things using images.”
Ms Chan Mun Yee, the school counsellor, expressed her gratitude, saying, “We are very honoured to have Mr Teo as our speaker today. I am amazed that this talk enabled students who previously struggled with memory to remember things efficiently. This has really helped them in their studies. I would also like to thank UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) for organising such a meaningful event.”
