Reuniting with UTAR alumni in Penang

Marking another memorable day

It was a day that fostered connections and celebrated shared experiences and achievements, when the alumni gathered at the “UTAR Alumni Gathering in the Northern Region” at Vouk Hotel Suites, Penang on 22 June 2024, organised by the Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP).

The alumni were joined by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, President of UTAR Alumni Association of Malaysia (UAAM) Mr Simon Chong Weng Yeap, Faculty of Business and Finance Dean Assoc Prof Dr Au Yong Hui Nee, DARP Head Ms Tan Cheng Wah, along with staff and guests.

It aimed to foster closer connections and meaningful engagements between UTAR and its alumni working within the Northern Region of Malaysia. It also served as an opportunity to update alumni on the latest developments of the university, as well as gather their feedback and suggestions.

Prof Dato’ Ewe enlightened the alumni on the current achievements and progress of the University. He also said, “Our gathering here is also to celebrate the achievements of our alumni. You have made remarkable contributions across various fields, and your successes reflect the values and education instilled by UTAR. As a University by the people, for the people, UTAR aspires to be more than just a global university of educational and research excellence with transformative societal impact. We also aspire to continue providing affordable and quality education to ensure that future generations have the same opportunities we did, so that they too can make remarkable contributions with a global impact.” He also encouraged the alumni to stay in touch with their alma mater.

Mr Simon Chong said, “Joining this vibrant community as a lifetime member is not just a formality; it is an opportunity to give back to the institution that has given us so much. By becoming a lifetime member, you contribute to the continuous improvement and success of our alma mater. Your support enables us to provide scholarships, enhance facilities, and develop programmes that will benefit future generations of students. The Alumni Association is more than just a means of supporting the University financially. It is a powerful network of individuals who share a common bond and a collective purpose. Through the association, we can build connections that last a lifetime, fostering friendships that transcend time and distance. These relationships are invaluable, offering opportunities for personal growth, professional development, and mutual support.”

A sharing session by the Founder of AMO Creative Media Sdn Bhd, Mr Robin Seng Chor Keat, ensued. He talked about his experience working as an engineer after graduating in 2010 and his current venture in the company he founded. He spoke about his passion and inspiration to start this business.

The end of the event marked another meaningful gathering for the alumni, as it saw the exchange of meaningful interactions with the President. They also enjoyed a fun round of quizzes, prizes and a good lunch.
