MoU signing between UTAR and Cosmos Technology International Berhad

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held between UTAR and Cosmos Technology International Berhad (CTIB) on 12 March 2024 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.

The MoU aimed to promote collaborative research, knowledge exchange, staff exchange, industrial study visits, student placement and community engagement projects to enhance learning experiences, professional development, curriculum development, and societal contribution.

The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and CTIB Managing Director Dato’ Chong Toh Wee. Witnessing the signing were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min and Cosmos Instrument Sdn Bhd Technical Manager Mr Jonas Goh Choon Hoong.

Also present at the event were CTIB Chief Financial Officer Ms Chee Siew Wan, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) former Deputy Director General Mr Yeow Teck Chai, JF Technology Berhad (Jftech) Dato’ Foong Wei Kuong, SRAS Berhad Managing Director Dr Donald Chen, Orlando Malaysia Managing Director Mr Ricky Ng, Makin Juta Sdn Bhd Executive Director Mr Lee Boon Piau, Cosmos Instrument Sdn Bhd Sales Manager Mr Syahdan and Cosmos Instrument Sdn Bhd Human Resources Manager Ms Chin Pooi Shin.

UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, LKC FES Head of Department of Mechanical and Material Engineering Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yeo Wei Hong, LKC FES academics Dr Kam Heng Keong and Mr Lee Sze Shin, and Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn were present as well.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “This MoU signifies more than just a formal agreement; it represents a shared vision and determination to harness our collective expertise and resources towards driving innovation and advancing research. By joining forces with CTIB, we are not only expanding our horizons but also opening new avenues for exploration and discovery.”

He added, “Collaboration between academia and industry is crucial in addressing the complex challenges of our time. Through this partnership, we will embark on joint projects that push the boundaries of knowledge and contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies and solutions. By leveraging our respective strengths, we can tackle challenges more effectively and accelerate progress towards our shared goals.”

Dato’ Chong expressed, “Today is a momentous occasion as we gather here to witness the signing of this MoU between UTAR and Cosmos. It is a significant step forward towards fostering a dynamic and cooperative partnership. This MoU is not merely for formal agreements, but is a group piece for collaborations, cooperation, innovation, and shared value as success.”

He concluded, “As we embark on this journey together, it is essential to explore the intricate details of our cooperation, as outlined in the MoU. The goals and objectives outlined in this MoU are not just explorations, they are shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and the holistic development of future leaders.”
