The Grand Kampar Sports Complex recently witnessed a thrilling showcase of athleticism and sportsmanship as UTAR successfully hosted the 2024 U25 Men’s 3x3 Basketball Championship on 27 April 2024.

The event, supported by UTAR Kampar Sports Club term 2023/2024, brought together 15 teams comprising 59 players, including UTAR students and the public, who competed in an action-packed tournament.

The opening ceremony commenced with a speech by Lam Yoke Kei, the organising chairperson of the 2024 U25 Men’s 3x3 Basketball Championship and the president of UTAR Kampar Sports Club term 2023/2024. In her address, Lam emphasised the significance of the championship in showcasing the basketball talents of the younger generation and fostering a deep appreciation for the sport. She expressed her gratitude to all participating teams, athletes, coaches, organising committee members, and sponsors for their unwavering support and dedication, highlighting their key role in making the event a success.

She remarked, “In the competition, it’s not just about winning, but also about building friendships and collaborations with basketball enthusiasts from all over, further promoting the development of basketball.”

After a series of games, Team “Shake & Bake” emerged as the Champion. Comprising Kwan Wai Kit, Lau Yeou Torng, Lum Kar Chun, and Cheow Hong Sheng, Team “Shake & Bake” showcased exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the tournament.

Securing the second spot was Team “The Cloud”, comprising Kew Hoong Lun, Lam Guan Xian, Chan Chun Fai, and Wong Mun Keng, while Team “Rookies” claimed third place with Bong Jun Chiu, Boo Wei Lun, Ito Chen Jiunn-Ru, and Tan Yit Rui as its members.

The awards were presented by UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong. Two event coordinators from the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) of UTAR, Ms Goh Man Hua and Encik Zulhanizam bin Zakaria, were also present at the closing ceremony.

The championship, overseen by three referees from “Persatuan Bola Keranjang” & “吡叻篮球总会”, ensured fair play and adherence to the rules throughout the tournament.

Overall, the 2024 U25 Men’s 3x3 Basketball Championship was a resounding success, showcasing the talent, passion, and sportsmanship of the participants. UTAR remains committed to promoting a vibrant sporting culture and providing platforms for young athletes to excel.
