Unveiling ceremony of Confucius Institute at UTAR during dialogue session with China Minister of Education

The “Unveiling ceremony of Confucius Institute at UTAR during dialogue session with China Minister of Education” was held on 26 April 2024, coinciding with a dialogue session between the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and the China Minister of Education, Dr Huai Jinpeng. The dialogue session, hosted by MCA President Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, took place at Mandarin Oriental hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The unveiling of the Confucius Institute plaque was conducted by Dezhou University President Prof Dr Zhao Changlin and UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, accompanied by Shandong Provincial Education Department Deputy Director General Dr Zhong Hongbo and UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min. The unveiling of the plaque was held in the presence of Dr Huai Jinpeng, the China Minister of Education.

The establishment of the Confucius Institute at UTAR was initiated through an agreement signed on 22 May 2023 between UTAR, Dezhou University, and the Chinese International Education Foundation. This collaboration is geared towards emphasising Chinese language teaching and research, training Chinese language educators, creating educational materials, fostering language and cultural exchanges, and overseeing Chinese language and culture assessments and certifications.

This ceremony symbolises the successful outcome of educational collaboration between China and Malaysia.

The official launching ceremony took place earlier that day at UTAR Sungai Long Campus, announcing the commencement of operations for the Confucius Institute at UTAR.
