MoU signing between UTAR and PMIMY

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held between UTAR and Project Management Institute Malaysia Chapter (PMIMY) on 2 May 2024 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.

The MoU aimed to jointly collaborate on organizing project management events to facilitate knowledge exchange and networking among industry practitioners, academics, and students, alongside student outreach activities and facilitated PMIMY membership for UTAR students, fostering their professional growth and providing access to valuable resources and industry support.

The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and PMIMY President Dr Joshua Netto. Witnessing the signing were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min and PMIMY Honorary Secretary and Director of Partnership Mr Francis Koh.

Also present at the event were PMIMY Director of Academic Outreach Mr Krishna Subramaniam, Director of Women in Project Management (WiPM) Ms Sandy Th'ng and volunteer Ms Yeong Yuet Seong.

UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Assoc Prof Ir Dr Ling Lloyd, LKC FES Head of Programme (Master of Project Management) Sr Zamharira binti Sulaiman, LKC FES academic Sr Dr Yow Li Ping and Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn were present as well.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the representatives of PMIMY for their unwavering commitment to advancing the field of project management and for their confidence in UTAR as a strategic partner. This partnership holds immense promise and potential for both parties, as we embark on a journey of mutual benefit and shared success.”

He added, “The MoU we are signing today covers a range of collaborative initiatives that will undoubtedly enrich the academic and professional experience of our students, as well as contribute to the broader community of project management professionals in Malaysia.”

Dr Joshua expressed, “Whether it is to upscale people or develop the next generation of project leaders, that is why we have partnerships, such as with universities like UTAR. We are very interested in developing the next generation of project leaders who are absolutely qualified to benefit our nation for years to come.”

He added, “We would like to extend many benefits to our partners and members, including students. Student membership in PMIMY is free; this is how we give back to the community. They can interact with industry leaders within our chapter, who have worked for 30 to 40 years, In-depth exchange of different knowledge.”
