UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus collaborated with the Division of Programme Promotion (DPP) to organise an engaging and enlightening campus visit for the students of San Min Secondary School (SUWA) on 3 May 2024.
The visit aimed to foster students’ passion for science, cultivate their experimental skills and offer valuable insights into university life. With an enthusiastic participation of 116 students, accompanied by four teachers, the visit to Kampar Campus was a resounding success.
The event commenced with an opening speech by the CFS Department of Management and Accountancy (Kampar Campus) Head, Ms Tsen Tzu Yee, who warmly welcomed the students and teachers. Following the opening remarks, the students delved into the fascinating world of chemical reactions during the chemistry workshops.
Coordinated by CFS Department of Science and Engineering (Kampar Campus) Head Ms Ooi Siew Fong and CFS Kampar Campus academic Rachel Tham Jia-Hui, alongside the facilitation of CFS Kampar Campus academics Ms Gurpreet Kaur Prithviraj Singh, Mr Sree Amertharaj Ratnam, and Mr Voon Kah Loon, students participated in interesting hands-on experiments including the Rainbow Reaction Tube, Baking Soda Powered Boat, and pH Indicator Art. These workshops sparked curiosity and fostered a deeper understanding of scientific theories among the participants.
In addition to the captivating chemistry workshops, the visit also featured an interesting talk titled Unveiling the Future with Artificial Intelligence (AI), delivered by CFS Kampar Campus academic Ms Hoh Ming Chee.
Ms Hoh provided students with a comprehensive overview of AI and its growing influence in the various aspects of our daily lives. Through interactive activities and demonstrations, students gained valuable insights into the applications of AI, prompting meaningful discussions and broadening their horizons. The day concluded with an informative campus tour guided by the DPP.
The feedback from participants was positive. Chanel Loo Szan Ya from Junior 3X expressed her excitement, stating, “The lecturers explained the chemical reactions in detail. I particularly enjoyed the Rainbow Reaction Tube experiment. It was a unique experience.”
